Business Ready Licensing for Existing Customers

In July 2006, Microsoft introduced a new licensing model called Business Ready Licensing. This new licensing model places the the value of the functionality on the user rather than on functional modules or granules.

Business Ready Licensing is broken into 3 separate editions based on the level of functionality provided. These three editions are:

The Business Essentials Edition is for customers who need core financial management and trade functionality, including:

Basic Financial Management (for example, General Ledger, A/R, A/P, Fixed Assets)
Basic Supply Chain Management (e.g. sales order processing, purchase order processing, inventory)
Basic Business Intelligence and Reporting
Basic Configuration and Design Tools

The Advanced Management Edition is the preferred solution for growing, mid-market, or high functional needs customers who are looking for an adaptive solution with a broad set of functionality including:

All functionality included in the Business Essentials Edition
Business Intelligence and Reporting
Manufacturing
Advanced Supply Chain management (e.g. Bill of Materials, requisition management)
Advanced Financial Management (e.g. collection, cash management)
Project Management

Advanced Management Enterprise extends the Advanced Management Edition with additional components that provide customers with complex needs access to a rich set of advanced functionality. This functionality includes:

Advanced Manufacturing (shop management, capacity planning, job costing)
Advanced Project Management
Customer Relationship Management (Field Service)
Advanced Configuration and Development Tools (including source code access)
License Model Transitions (moving from Module Based Licensing to Business Ready Licensing)

On January 17, 2007, Microsoft announced the offering for existing customers looking to transition to Business Ready Licensing. This new offering affords customers the opportunity to potentially extend the capabilities of their solution significantly at a reduced cost.

Customers may find value in transitioning to Business Ready Licensing in one of two ways. The first is by looking at new areas of the business that can be impacted by extending the solution. Microsoft Dynamics offers a wide array of functionality around financials, distribution, manufacturing, field service, project accounting, business intelligence, collaboration, and customer relationship management. Business Ready Licensing can help you to automate new areas of your business to help increase efficiency gains and drive overall cost reduction.

Secondly, Business Ready Licensing can help you to increase the capabilities of those already using the solution. This may mean enhancing financial management through better compliance, improved reporting capabilities, or increased exposure internally to key data needed to drive decisions.

Microsoft is not requiring customers to change their licensing model. There are no plans at this time to discontinue the Module Based Licensing pricelists for customers who licensed under these pricelists on or before October 13, 2006. These customers should feel confident that they will be able to license additional modules and/or users from those pricelists for as long as the product is supported.
